Anniston Project Manager Explains Destruction Technology

The former site project manager of the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility, Alabama, shared his experience with the Static Detonation Chamber during the January 31 Colorado Chemical Demilitarization Citizens’ Advisory Commission meeting.

  • A boom lifts a plant operator onto a tanker to assist in transferring wastewater from a 30-day Hydrolysate Storage Tank into the tanker for transport from the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant to Veolia Environmental Services Hazardous Waste Incinerator, Port Arthur, Texas.

The Anniston Field Office is successfully supporting Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant operations by destroying non-contaminated energetic components.

Two truckloads of hydrolysate, the wastewater product of the chemical neutralization process, were successfully shipped from the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant on July 31.

A robotic arm places a munition into a Cavity Access Machine (CAM) during training exercises at the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant. CAMs, which are a part of the Munitions Washout System, wash out chemical agent from munition bodies with high-pressure, hot water.

Colorado Plant Achieves Munition Processing Milestone

The Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant achieved a destruction milestone when 716 munitions were processed in one day June 13.

Sealed with weather-resistant covers, roll off bins, each containing approximately 25,000 pounds of salt cake, await transport to a permitted disposal facility.

Salt Cake Shipment Signifies Complete Plant Cycle

Two truckloads of salt cake left the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant June 9, signifying the first full cycle of the chemical agent destruction process.

Salt cakes in a roll off bin, produced from surrogate thiodiglycol at the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant in February 2016. Since May 23, seven roll off bins, each containing approximately 20,000 pounds of salt cakes, have been produced from biotreated effluent.
