First Explosive Destruction System Campaign Successfully Completed

The first campaign of the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) Explosive Destruction System (EDS) came to a successful conclusion Feb. 11 when four 105mm projectiles were verified destroyed.

Anniston Static Detonation Chamber to Destroy Pueblo’s Energetics

Staff at the Anniston Field Office (AFO), Anniston Army Depot, Alabama, will support the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant mission when the Anniston Static Detonation Chamber is used to destroy energetic components from the Pueblo stockpile.

Thiodiglycol (TDG) is placed in a 30-day Hydrolysate Storage Tank to await testing in Immobilized Cell Bioreactors. The primary byproduct created during the neutralization process, TDG will be used to test the efficacy of biotreatment processes.

Systemization Nears Completion at Pueblo Plant

The Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant continues to make progress toward the start of operations. Three tanks of thiodiglycol arrived at the plant by Oct. 7.

With the help of a metal seal ring (used inside the vessel during door closure), Bruce Huenefeld, site project manager for the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant Explosive Destruction System (PCAPP EDS), describes the process by which the EDS door seal was repaired. Huenefeld spoke at the Citizens’ Advisory Commission meeting held in Boone on Sept. 30.
