• National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, Initial Closure Planning for the Blue Grass and Pueblo Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plants, April 2020
  The Committee on Initial Closure Planning for the Blue Grass and Pueblo Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plants was tasked to review documents related to the closure of legacy chemical demilitarization plants and use their expert judgment to identify key areas and issues that should be considered when planning for closing Blue Grass and Pueblo Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plants. This letter report presents those key issues in the following three broad categories: decontamination and hazardous waste; worker safety and industrial hygiene; and environmental safety, regulations, and permitting.
• National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Metrics for Successful Supercritical Water Oxidation System Operation at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant, May 2019
  The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine released a report making recommendation for metrics that focus on technical parameters for safety, performance, corrosion, reliability, availability and maintainability of the supercritical water oxidation system.
• National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Effects of the Deletion of Chemical Agent Washout on Operations at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant, May 2016
  The National Academies’ review of the Effects of the Deletion of Chemical Agent Washout on Operations at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) has been released. This report reviews and evaluates the decision to eliminate the munitions washout process following gravity draining of chemical agent and identifies the decision’s effects.
• National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Review Criteria for Successful Treatment of Hydrolysate at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant, September 2015
  The National Academies’ Review Criteria for Successful Treatment of Hydrolysate at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant has been released. This report develops criteria for successfully treating the hydrolysate, identifies systemization data that should factor into the criteria/decision process, suggests potential modifications to suggested treatment that would allow continued onsite processing, and assesses waste disposal procedures.
• National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Assessment of Supercritical Water Oxidation System Testing for the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant, 2013
  The National Academies’ assessment of supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) system testing for the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) project has been released. This report reviews and evaluates the results of the tests conducted on one of the SCWO units to be provided to BGCAPP.
• National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, The Blue Grass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant’s Water Recovery System, March 2012
  The National Academies’ report on the Water Recovery System has been released. This report specifically reviews the design and materials of construction of the water recovery system (WRS) that will be used to recycle combined effluents from the supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) system and from the cooling tower and steam blowdown for reuse in the facility.
• National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Review and Assessment of Developmental Issues Concerning the Metal Parts Treater (MPT) Design for the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant, March 2008
  The National Academies’ report on the metal parts treater at Blue Grass has been released. Their findings and recommendations will assist the BGCAPP team in implementing design changes and ensuring proper testing prior to MPT operations.
• National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Letter Report on the Intermediate Design of the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant, July 2006
  The NRC’s final letter report on the Review and Assessment of the Proposals for Design and Operation of Designated Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plants (DCAPP-Blue Grass II) has been released. In this report, the NRC provides its assessment of the full intermediate design of the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant, with the exception of the Supercritical Water Oxidation process that had been previously reviewed in its July 3, 2006, letter report cited below.
