Closing the Final U.S. Chemical Demilitarization Facilities: ACWA Overview 2024

In 2024, the Program Executive Office, Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (PEO ACWA) is overseeing the safe and environmentally compliant closure of the two remaining U.S. chemical demilitarization facilities: the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant in Colorado and the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant in Kentucky.

On July 7, 2023, the last declared munition in the U.S. chemical weapons stockpile was destroyed in Kentucky, honoring a commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention, an international arms control treaty.
