COVID-19 Pandemic Response
Progress continues at PCAPP and includes workforce measures taken in accordance with up-to-date guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to fight the potential spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

- On Dec. 11, the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant began its second campaign with the destruction of the first 105mm projectiles of mustard agent stored at the U.S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot. Prior to the start of the campaign, there were more than 350,000 105mm projectiles in the Colorado stockpile.
- In the first two weeks of the 105mm destruction campaign, PCAPP workers safely destroyed approximately 6,000 projectiles.
- The management team at PCAPP continues to work to reduce risks to the workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic. On Nov. 18, the PCAPP team reinstated remote work policies, which allowed on-site office staff to telework to the extent possible. Plant-wide, a culture of mask-wearing and adherence to COVID safety measures has been established. The workforce adhered to these policies during the plant’s changeover to destroy 105mm projectiles.
- Initial testing is underway on the Static Detonation Chamber units at PCAPP, as employees from Dynasafe, the manufacturer of the three destruction units, performed a site acceptance test, one of the first steps toward the units becoming operational.

PCAPP is a state-of-the-art facility built to destroy the chemical weapons stockpile stored at the U.S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot, Colorado. The main plant uses neutralization followed by biotreatment to destroy the mustard agent stockpile. The safety of the workforce and neighboring communities is the project’s most important priority.
