In December, the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) continued processing in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention pandemic recommendations. In preparation for the upcoming VX campaign, workers at the main plant have been using ACWA Test Equipment through the Munitions Washout System and Metal Parts Treaters. These inert munitions are used to test the processing systems and to train workers before actual munitions are processed. Filter changeouts at the Explosive Destruction Technology facility were completed for the first time. Work continues at the Static Detonation Chamber 2000 site with the arrival of the thermal oxidizer. As of Dec. 18, the total amount of agent destroyed is 87.3 U.S. tons. Currently, the Static Detonation Chamber is processing munitions while the main plant is preparing for the next destruction campaign.
