In May, the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) continued systemization, or testing, activities for preparation of operations. The Integrated Operations Demonstration at the Explosive Destruction Technology facility, which houses the Static Detonation Chamber, was completed, marking another milestone for the beginning of agent destruction. IODs are a series of demonstrations to outside organizations that prove operations are ready to proceed. A ribbon cutting event, to mark the start of agent destruction in Kentucky, was held on May 29. Many distinguished leaders were in attendance including, Governor of Kentucky, Matt Bevin, U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Threat Reduction and Arms Control, Dr. Charles Ball and PEO ACWA Program Executive Officer Mr. Michael Abaie. In the main plant, a total of 56 of 59 systems have been turned over to the operations team.
