Craig Williams, co-chair, Chemical Destruction Community Advisory Board, explains the formation of a new monthly working group to better respond to the faster-paced activities at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant at a public meeting in December 2017.

Community members working with officials at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant have formed a new group to quickly address topics as the plant progresses toward operations.

“With the speed and quantity of information generated as the Blue Grass plant ramps up toward operations, we need to be able to address topics and issues as they occur, instead of waiting for a quarterly meeting,” said Craig Williams, co-chair, Chemical Destruction Community Advisory Board (CDCAB).

Kentucky Chemical Demilitarization Citizens’ Advisory Commission (CAC) and CDCAB members formed the Process Working Group, which will meet monthly, except for the months of the quarterly meeting, and rolled most of the existing working groups into it, Williams said.

The board had previously formed several working groups to address various topics such as air monitoring and secondary waste. The one group that will continue to work independently is the Economic Development Working Group, which has been renamed the Economic Impact Working Group.

“We are committed to providing transparency in our communications,” said Jeff Brubaker, site project manager, Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant. “We appreciate this change, as it allows us to hold discussions and provide information for the group’s recommendation process in a more timely manner. This keeps things moving as we are turning systems over to operations and rolling toward start-up.”

The CAC/CDCAB and its working groups provide an avenue for public communication with and input to the Blue Grass project.
