Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) employees donated wish-list items in November and December to Soldiers’ Angels, a non-profit organization that benefits deployed troops and veterans.

“The generosity of the workforce shone brightly during this campaign,” said Carolyn Murray, Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass’ organizer for this campaign. “Individuals were eager and excited to help, and donations flowed into both drop-off locations daily.”

Specific items were written on ornaments displayed on Christmas trees at two site locations. Employees selected one or two of these ornaments to donate those items, depending upon their ability to give, said Murray. Items were chosen to meet the specific needs of the Soldiers’ Angels organization services.

“It’s wonderful to be able to give back to those less fortunate or a long way from home at the holidays,” said Sarah Klewicki, campaign contributor. “Donating to this campaign meant a lot to me, and I was happy for the opportunity to participate.”

Donated items were inventoried, packed and palletized for pickup and shipping to the organization, said Klewicki. To date, BGCAPP employees have donated more than 3,500 items, as well as a cash donation gathered during an Employee’s Club event.

Items collected during this drive will be used in care packages, hygiene kits, sack lunches for homeless veterans and to stock break rooms in U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers.
