Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass is under contract to the Program Executive Office, Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (PEO ACWA) to design, build, test, operate and close the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP).
The companies of the Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass joint venture have been involved collectively in designing, building and/or operating each of the nine U.S. chemical demilitarization facilities. The team’s key managers have experience in all aspects of chemical demilitarization. For decades, the team’s companies have been engaged in community, charitable, educational and job-creation efforts at work locations around the globe.
Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass is a joint venture of Bechtel National Inc., of Reston, Virginia, and Parsons Government Services Inc., of Pasadena, California. The joint venture has three teaming subcontractors: Amentum, Battelle Memorial Institute and GP Strategies Corporation. Parsons Government Services Inc.
Parsons has more than 20 years of continuous involvement in U.S. and international chemical weapons elimination including the design of seven U.S. facilities; the construction and operation of the Newport Chemical Agent Disposal Facility in Indiana; and the engineering management of the chemical agent neutralization facility in Siberia, Russia – the largest of its kind. For PEO ACWA, Parsons developed the neutralization-biotreatment technology selected to destroy the Pueblo, Colorado, chemical weapons stockpile.
Amentum
Amentum, formerly known as AECOM, has more than 36 years of experience with the U.S. chemical weapons elimination program, serving as prime contractor at the following chemical agent disposal facilities: Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Umatilla, Oregon; Anniston, Alabama; Tooele, Utah; and Johnston Atoll, located 825 miles southwest of Hawaii. Amentum is operating and will close the Blue Grass and Pueblo, Colorado, chemical agent destruction facilities. The company provides a full range of science, engineering, construction and operating services in 14 major markets.
Battelle Memorial Institute
As one of the world’s largest private independent research and development companies, Battelle develops and commercializes technology for a wide variety of industry and government customers. From creating novel coatings for undersea vessels, designing non-lethal weapons for law enforcement, devising airborne sensors that assess the integrity of river levees, to operating state-of-the-art laboratories at two U.S. chemical agent disposal facilities, Battelle has completed more than 5,000 projects for 1,300 customers. Founded in 1966, GP Strategies is one of the few truly global performance improvement companies in the world. Serving more than 16 industries, GP Strategies provides sales and technical training, eLearning solutions, management consulting and engineering services. For more than 28 years, GP Strategies has operated the Chemical Demilitarization Training Facility located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, to provide specific courses in chemical demilitarization operations such as laboratory operations, maintenance, emergency response and toxic-area monitoring for all U.S. chemical agent disposal facilities. Additionally, GP Strategies has provided services at the following chemical agent disposal facilities: Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Umatilla, Oregon; Anniston, Alabama; Tooele, Utah; Newport, Indiana; Aberdeen, Maryland; Pueblo, Colorado; and Johnston Atoll.
