Blue Grass Plant Expands Richmond Mall Operations

An Information, Systems and Technology Group (IS&T) worker installs a network telephone on a desk in the Blue Grass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant’s newly completed office space in the Richmond Mall. The new area hosts approximately 50 workers, specifically engineering and IS&T Group personnel.

The Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) project is now occupying an additional 12,000 square feet of office space in the Richmond Mall in Richmond, Kentucky.

“We are realigning and consolidating space and personnel for greater efficiency in the systemization and operations phases of the project,” said Cindy Klinger, project administrator, Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass (BPBG). “This activity placed personnel who need to be at the site on a regular basis in site accommodations, and those who support the project more externally are in the mall offices.”

The new space hosts approximately 50 workers, specifically engineering and Information, Systems and Technology Group personnel.

In the last hours before moving in, vendors finished placing and installing furniture and equipment. Office services personnel installed computers the night before the move so workers could start work without interruption in the morning.

“This move gives us better placement with the departments we coordinate with and more exposure to pertinent project meetings,” said Chona Cruz, civil/structural/architectural design lead, BPBG. “It’s very welcome to be able to meet with people face to face, instead of on a conference call. And it’s nice to have more space and be in a new place.”

The project has occupied 42,000 square feet of office space in the Richmond Mall since 2009, plus a training center, as project personnel had outgrown facilities around the Richmond area. The mall provides a central location close to BGCAPP’s location on the Blue Grass Army Depot and accommodates most of the project’s off-site personnel. Off-site space is required due to the compact size of the project’s depot site.
